Professor Paul Statham, SCMR Director, has just returned from a kick-off meeting in Bangkok for the Sussex Mahidol Migration Partnership (SMMP), that is funded by a grant award from the International Research Partnerships and Networks (IRPN) scheme at the University of Sussex.
At Mahidol, Paul met with Prof Sureeporn Punpuing, Director of the Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR) and Prof Aphichat Chamratrithirong, Director of the Mahidol Migration Center (MMC), and their colleagues to discuss ideas for future research collaborations, funding opportunities and exchanges of staff and knowledge. Plans were laid out that aim to deepen research initiatives and links between Mahidol and Sussex and extend the network to other Migration centres in Europe and SE Asia. Specifically, discussions covered
funding opportunities for a new project on retirement and marriage migration between the UK and Thailand, opportunities for Mahidol students to come to Sussex via the JRA international scheme and Newton Fellowships, supportive frameworks and links between the international journals hosted by the centres, a joint web page, and joint conferences and events to be held in Sussex and Mahidol in 2016.
As part of the launching of the Sussex Mahidol Migration Partnership, we have set up a Facebook page and a Twitter account @SussexMahidol . Follow us to learn about the latest events and news related to the Partnership. In the next months, we will launch a webpage with more detailed information about the Partnership and its research activities.
